This time is split between a 30-minute Basic Tap and a 1-hour established class of Intermediate Tap. For those who have no tapping background, please arrive at 9:30AM to learn the basic tap steps, and then we all join together at 10:00AM for tap dances.

Fun and fellowship for moderately experienced and advanced beginners. You'll need some prior instruction and/or a knowledge of basic steps. Quick learners learn by observing and dancing. Minimal instruction includes new as well as old dances.

New and returning students alike will learn basic ballet terms and techniques, as well as the basic steps and positions put into combinations. Ballet is great exercise for the body, mind and soul, and it is fun, too! Classes will include barre exercise, center work and simple routines. Students will gain flexibility, develop grace, balance, posture and confidence. Please wear comfortable clothing, appropriate footwear and be ready to have fun!


Tantalizing Tango

Even if you have taken Tango dance classes previously, this offering promises to introduce students to new and interesting ways of using both basic and advanced Tango patterns. Please, no footwear (like flip-flops) that can slide off easily. Also, in order to lessen fatigue as well as the likelihood of a foot or ankle stress fracture, footwear should be smooth (well worn) on the sole in the area of the ball of the foot. Students should be prepared to begin each class promptly at 11AM. Please note: students must pre-arrange a partner for this class in order to register and participate. Have you ever wondered what life is like as a professional ballet dancer? There aren’t many careers from which you retire at the age of 35, but this is exactly what Valerie Tellmann-Henning did. From dancing the role of Clara in The Nutcracker at the age of 12 to the Sugar Plum Fairy, she has done it all. Join Valerie as she discusses her 16 years in the Richmond Ballet, her transition to her new role as the Ballet’s Public Relations and Content Manager, and the exciting things coming up in the organization.
