Beginning Sign Language

Join this class to learn the basics of Sign Language and gain great enjoyment in learning this beautiful form of communication. Students will learn Signed English and the ability to communicate with the deaf or each other for fun or out of necessity.

It’s time to say, "Parliamo italiano on po” to your fears of learning a new language with a non-native speaking instructor, who lived in Italy four years and had to learn it, too. Students will begin with the basic ABC’s, pronunciation and making short sentences. This class emphasizes immersion in the language and uses the original Berlitz System, which will help students be able to make short sentences at a very early stage.

Join other students interested in learning French, one of the romance languages!  This course will initially emphasize common daily conversation before introducing the more didactic grammar.  Students will be encouraged to complete assignments each week and participate in oral exercises in class. Audio tapes will supplement the classroom experience.

This course is designed for students who have studied most verb conjugations and completed Beginning French and Intermediate French or for students with a high level of proficiency in the French language. A didactic curriculum will be followed but there will also be detours into French history, literature, and arts as well as French associated cultures. All instructions and exercises are written in French, and students will be encouraged to speak and listen during class!

Students should have a minimum of two year's coursework in German and be comfortable taking part in speaking exercises. This course emphasizes immersion in the language. You will TALK and THINK in German and become increasingly fluent and accurate through interaction with the native-speaking instructor and with other students in the course. This course will use the the Berlitz System.

This is Part 3 in the series that started in the Spring session. This class will introduce the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in Spanish with an emphasis on mastering high-frequency grammar through exercises and reading comprehension. This class will continue and conclude using the text: Basic Spanish by Dorothy Richmond (2nd Edition). The book can optionally be purchased through LLI during Open Registration only, and payment is due at registration. Purchasing a Spanish dictionary is also recommended.

This class is for students with a solid base knowledge of Spanish and for students who have completed the Beginning Spanish Grammar series. Skills will be sharpened by learning in context with readings, high-frequency vocabulary and sentence building. This class will continue and conclude using the text: Practice Makes Perfect: Spanish Sentence Builder by Gilda Nissenberg (2nd Edition). The book can optionally be purchased through LLI during Open Registration only, and payment is due at registration.

Bonjour! Come practice the French you learned in high school, college, or LLI in a casual, non-threatening environment. You will not be required to stand in front of the class and speak French. The class will be conducted in French, covering a different topic each week. Vocabulary will be provided, if needed, as you speak to the person next to you. Nous nous amusons! (We enjoy ourselves!)
